What Is A CRO Walk & Wade Trip Like?
A CRO walk-and-wade trip is a hands-on, personalized day of fly fishing built around you. Your guide will choose the water based on current conditions and your goals, provide the equipment you need, and spend the day fishing right alongside you. Rather than simply showing you where to cast, our guides help you understand the river—where trout hold, what they’re eating, and why certain techniques work. Whether you’re introducing your family to fly fishing, learning for the first time, or looking to sharpen your skills, we’ll adjust the pace, instruction, and fishing style to create the experience you’re looking for.
Meet Your Guide — Meet your CRO guide at the arranged location, get acquainted, and talk through the plan for the day. From there, you’ll head to the river and the water your guide has selected based on current conditions, your experience level, and your goals for the trip.
Gear Up — Once you arrive, your guide will have everything ready for your day on the water. CRO provides rods, reels, flies, tackle, waders, and boots as needed, and your guide will make sure everything fits properly and is set up for the conditions you’ll be fishing.
Learn the Basics — Before you start fishing, your guide will introduce you to the river—where trout are likely to hold, what they’re feeding on, and how you’ll approach the water. First-time anglers will receive a complete introduction to casting, line management, presentation, recognizing strikes, setting the hook, fighting fish and the techniques you’ll use throughout the day.
Start Fishing — It’s time to put those skills to work. You’ll begin fishing runs, riffles, pools, pockets, and other productive trout habitat while your guide stays close by to provide instruction, make adjustments, and help put you in the best position to succeed.

Colorado River Outfitters is fortunate to have access to an incredible amount of permitted trout water throughout the Vail Valley and Western Colorado, giving our guides the flexibility to choose from a wide variety of fishing options throughout the season. The Eagle River is the heart of our walk-and-wade program, and we conduct the majority of our wade trips on its productive waters through the Vail Valley, where miles of diverse trout habitat provide opportunities for beginners and experienced anglers alike. Depending on conditions, our extensive permitted waters also give us access to additional fisheries throughout the region. For guests staying in Vail, Beaver Creek, Glenwood Springs or Aspen, most fishing locations are approximately 15–60 minutes away. For anglers traveling from Denver or Colorado Springs, CRO can also recommend Front Range fishing options based on current conditions and your location.Having this many quality trout-fishing options so close together is something truly special and it allows your CRO guide to recommend the river and section offering the best experience for your trip.

We had an absolutely amazing experience! The guides were incredible and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. We had a group of four kids, two girls and two boys ranging from 13 to 16 and every single one of them caught plenty of fish and had an unforgettable time.

Walk-and-wade trips can be customized to your comfort and ability level. Some trips involve very little walking and relatively easy river access, while others can be more active and adventurous. Let us know about any mobility concerns when booking, and your guide can recommend appropriate water. -
Do I need experience wading in a river?
Not at all. Many of our guests have never worn waders or stepped into moving water before. Your guide will teach you how to safely move through the river, choose appropriate places to cross, and maintain your footing while fishing. -
