Frequently Asked Questions - Booking & Trip Planning

How do I book a guided fly fishing trip?

Booking your trip is easy. Simply contact Colorado River Outfitters by phone, email, or through our online booking form. We'll discuss your group's experience level, preferred dates, number of anglers, and fishing goals before recommending the best river, guide, and trip option based on current conditions.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for trips during June through September. Peak summer weekends and holidays often fill months in advance, particularly around Vail, Beaver Creek, Glenwood Springs, and Aspen.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. A deposit is required to reserve your date and guide. Once your trip is confirmed, we'll provide payment instructions along with everything you need to prepare for your day on the water.

When is the remaining balance due?

Your remaining balance is due before your scheduled trip. We'll provide all payment details and deadlines when your reservation is confirmed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because we reserve professional guides specifically for your trip, cancellations made within our cancellation window may be subject to charges. If weather or river conditions make your trip unsafe, we'll work with you to reschedule whenever possible. Please review our full cancellation policy when booking.

Can I request a specific guide?

Absolutely. Many guests return year after year to fish with the same guide. If you have a preferred guide, let us know when booking, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request based on availability.  Meet our team of professional guides HERE.

What if I don't know which river to fish?

That's what we're here for. Our guides monitor river flows, water temperatures, hatches, and fishing conditions every day. Your guide will recommend the best river for your trip based on current conditions, your experience level, and what kind of fishing experience you're looking for.

Do you offer half-day and full-day trips?

Yes. We offer both half-day, 3/4 day and full-day guided fly fishing trips. Half-day trips (4 hours) are perfect for families, beginners, or guests with limited time. 3/4 day trips (6 hours) are great for individuals with afternoon plans or who want to dedicate their trip entirely to fishing and not spend time eating lunch.  Full-day trips (8hours) allow you to explore more longer sections or river, fish during multiple hatch windows, and enjoy the most complete experience and also include lunch.  Learn more about our trips by clicking HERE.

How many people can fish together?

Each drift boat comfortably accommodates one or two anglers plus your guide. Larger groups are easily accommodated by providing multiple boats and guides, allowing everyone to fish together while enjoying a personalized experience.  For wade trips, we can accommodate 1-3 anglers per guide.  Larger groups up to 24-36 people can be accommodated but are generally spread out with their individual guide.

Do you offer corporate outings and large group trips?

Yes. Colorado River Outfitters specializes in corporate events, executive retreats, employee appreciation outings, bachelor parties, family reunions, and other group experiences. We can coordinate multiple guides and boats to accommodate groups of nearly any size.

Can children participate?

Absolutely. We love introducing young anglers to fly fishing. Our guides tailor each trip to match the ages and experience levels of your family, making it fun, educational, and safe for everyone.  If you're wondering if your kids are old enough, give us a call to discuss.

Can non-fishing family members come along?

In many cases, yes. Depending on the river, water conditions, and boat availability, non-anglers may be able to ride along and enjoy a scenic float through Colorado's beautiful mountain valleys. Contact us before booking so we can discuss the best options for your group.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes. Guided fly fishing trips make excellent gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, retirement celebrations, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and corporate rewards. Gift certificates are available for any trip or dollar amount.

What if the weather forecast looks bad?

Don't let the forecast discourage you. Some of Colorado's best fly fishing happens on cool, cloudy, rainy or snowy days. Our guides closely monitor weather conditions and will only postpone trips if conditions become unsafe.

What happens after I book my trip?

Once your reservation is confirmed, you'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to prepare for your trip, including what to bring, fishing license information, recommended clothing, weather considerations, and answers to common pre-trip questions.  Your guide will contact you to discuss meeting place and time at least 48 hours out from your trip.

Can I book a trip if I'm visiting Denver, Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, or Glenwood Springs?

Absolutely. Many of our guests travel from around the country to fish Colorado's legendary trout waters. Whether you're staying in Denver, Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Avon, Edwards, Eagle, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, or Carbondale, we'll recommend the most convenient meeting location and the best river based on current fishing conditions.

How do I know which trip is right for me?

Every angler has different goals. Whether you're looking to catch your first trout on a fly rod, improve your casting, target trophy brown trout, enjoy a relaxing family float, or experience some of the best fly fishing Colorado has to offer, we'll help you choose the trip that's the best fit for your experience level and expectations.
